Third time this October we've had such a hot and windy day.
Yeah, climate change totally isn't a pressing issue.
Yeah, cos bush fires in October are so common y'know.

Fancy on a budget
I made a batch that would serve 4-6 people. Costed me just under $15.
Why do we even eat out?!
P.s. In the middle of a ginormous 3 hour gap I have at uni, but I'm falling asleep. Had a chicken and mushroom pide from uni bros = oh gad, this will be the end of me. 1.5 hours to bring my game face to my next tute (class participation, great).

Chur Burger
Man, can I just say, there's so much hype.
I feel like everyone's gone to eat there, but me. I've been waiting for Z to get back to Sydney, and today, we finally made it. His flight touched down this morning, and by lunch, we were happily munching on our burgers.
It is good.
Why?
A few reasons. Please note that I'm biased. I feel like this burger was made for me.
1. I love pulled pork. When I had a quick scan of the menu, this caught my attention. Didn't need to read any further.
2. Juicy burgers. There's nothing worse than a dry burger. This little beaut had me licking my fingers, hands and almost my elbows as the delicious combo of slow cooked meat juice and sauce trickled down my arms.
3. Hot Samoan Boys?! I never used to eat with hot sauce. I occasionally reached for the Tabasco, but wow, this chilli sauce works really well on the pork. I didn't eat chilli in the past, but I guess my taste has changed. After all, some like it hot! :P
4. It's all in the buns. Brioche buns. Need I say more?
Yes I do.
5. Fries. Hand cut? Tick. Sweet potato? Tick. Delicious flavour? BOOMTICK! I can't put my finger on the taste. The menu says it is just dressed with garlic and lime, but I thought I could taste other herbs too. Regardless, it was tasty and soft on the inside, and crispy on the edges. MmMmmm.
So overall, I'm super happy with my visit. It was pretty busy today (Friday) around lunch. Oh definitely come again.

Happiness
I have no idea.
Currently exploring the colourful world of juicing. I've been having fresh juice for about a week now. I actually have more energy, sleep better at night and overall, I feel well.
This is carrot and kumquat (with the skin on). I've experimented with spinach, kale, celery, apple, pear and grapes.
When summer swings by, I'm gonna get a nutribullet/magic bullet and actually make smoothies and stuff on-the-go. Having to clean up the juice fountain is a bit of a bitch ahaha and I feel a bit sad to toss away all the pulpy goodness (all dat fibre!!!)
Sleep resolution (going to bed before 12) is not going well. SIGH. Workload is insanely crazy, but the content is rather enjoyable. Who knew I would ever appreciate academic journals about corporate governance and business ethics?

Life changing
This semester I picked subjects I thought were more suited to my personality.
It's only week 3, but I feel like the way that I perceive things has changed.
I've even started to analyse my daily thoughts/situations with theories that I've read in academic papers.
This is what an education should feel like.
It's mind boggling to think that I'm only experiencing this in my last semester of uni...
Why didn't I take this path earlier? I should have listened to myself and followed my "dreams". Parents do want the best for you, but you should know yourself better than anyone else.
In saying this, I am still too scared to tell D that I've dropped a major in my final semester. Oh god. I'm already the disappointing child of the family -_-

Seriously considering
Now that holidays are just on the horizon, I'm thinking of getting a pet...
SEA MONKEYS?
Watch this space. I'll decide in a couple of days.
I'm actually really fascinated by these. When I was a kid my sister got a set for her birthday and I remember they were alive and kicking before we went on a six week holiday. When we came back, the tank was all dried up and there was nothing but salt crystals at the bottom. We just refilled the tank with water, and VOILA, the sea monkeys were alive again a day later. AMAZING.

EGGSPERIMENTING
And last night when I was foodtube surfing, I found a video that taught how to poach an egg in the microwave.
So I tried it, and it was successful. It took me a few eggs before I finally got one that wasn't overcooked (my microwave is HEAPS old and has different settings).
SO YEAH. A poached egg in 45 seconds.
And my baked egg. With tomato and spinach- which was LOVELY because I cooked the tomato in a pan beforehand.
Just gonna record my ingreds/steps here, and if you guys want to try/give me tips, PLEASE!
Diced tomatoes- 4tbspn out of a can, or alternatively dice 2 fresh tomatoes (1cm by 1cm blocks, I like mushy to matters)
A handful of fresh spinach. I just gave these a rinse and a good scrunch. I'm not a fan of blanching veges actually.
Half a clove of garlic- very finely diced. I sharpened my knife just for this and Jamie oliver-ed the shit out of it. I HATE garlic pieces. Ughgh. But somehow it makes the food taste so good :'(
Turn the burner on. Add a teaspoon of oil onto you pan. Before you spread the oil, chuck on the garlic and let the flavour be infused into the oil. Don't let it brown too much.
Spread it around the pan, and add in your tomatoes. If your pan is SUPER hot, watch out for exploding bits flying out. Add in a light pinch of salt and sugar, a turn of pepper and a dash or two of Tabasco. If you're crazy adventurous like be, squeeze in a smidge (just a smidge) of BBQ sauce- it's my secret ingredient.
Stir stir stir! This should be cooking for like a minute and a half. Turn the burner off. And it's time to assemble.
Oil your oven-proof dish. Put in half of the tomato mix in your dish, chuck spinach on one side (the egg side), layer on the rest of the tomato, more spinach on the other side (top layer), and crack an egg on the tomato. I added a bit of olive oil into the spinach for good measure and baked it on 240 deg for about 10 minutes.
I'm really happy with how this turned out. But next time I'm gonna add some sun dried tomatoes, and feta or goat cheese. And omg if I have prosciutto. Or chorizo.
Zermagerd.
Thanks to circa, instagram, not quite nigella and tastemade (sorted team) for all the inspiration. This is the best breakfast I've had in a while.

When I get mad
Like for example, this morning I was on breakfast duty for K (she has an exam this morning so we all figured last night that ill sacrifice some sleep and make brekkie/take her to uni). As I was shuffling around the kitchen doing my own thang, D sees me cracking eggs and proceeds to turn the gas burner on. Before the pan gets hot, he pours in about 2 tbs oil.
I have a problem with this.
1. I haven't toasted my bread yet. K asked for eggs on toast. So I can't cook the eggs yet.
2. The pan has to be hot before you add the oil. I feel like it has a weird taste if you let it heat up slow with the pan.
3. 2 tbs oil is TOO MUCH for 3 eggs in a non stick. -.- You can get away with none.
4. I wanted to let the eggs get back to room temp before cooking them- K wasn't even up yet! Needless to say, by the time she got there it was cold.
5. Also. I had 2 jobs. To make breakfast and drive her. He took 1.5 of that away from me. >:( not happy jan
So yeah, here are the five things that REALLY infuriated me this morning (i am also not exactly what you'd call a morning person) but I'd at least be civil if you let me go about my own way.
M is also like this (but to a lesser extent) when I'm making dinner at night- but at least her advice is actually useful and she has like what, 20 years of experience.
I'm not a pro in the kitchen, but please, I'm a pro at making eggs K loves.
I guess this egg story could be extended as a metaphor for my life. #sadtimes.
Hope you all have a lovely 4 day week. Happy studying to those on stuvac like me :)

Haha jk
I was just thinking about things that annoy me. Aside from saying "no offence" there are some other things you could say to tick me off.
A lot of dickheads I know use the phrase "haha jk" or "lol jk". And most of the time, it's not funny, and it was most definitely not meant as a joke.
People who say this usually:
1. Assume they know you/the full story
2. Mean what they say, but add the "jk" at the end so we can't catch them out on it.
It's a really cheap way of insulting someone.
Haha I think you're a fuckwit and you are ugly. Lol jk.
No it's not funny.
And the damage is done.

Ramen Zundo
Yippee! I didn't even know this place opened up in World Square.
When we got there at 7.20ish, the restaurant was buzzing, but we didn't have to wait for a table.
Small white ramen set with a mini donburi curry
Zundo red - Zundo spicy chili oil
Zundo White - Zundo original flavour
Portion wise - it's not bad. I was definitely satisfied, but I don't think the boys were.
But overall, I LIKED IT! It's more expensive than Tenkomori Ramen House (ramen version of Oiden and Mappen), but it's definitely worth the extra bucks. I don't think Tenkomori is that great to be honest.
They have a loyalty card - for every 8 bowls you get, you get a regular bowl for free! Not bad. So much better value than the Menya one.
Long time no review type post, but I felt obliged to share. I RATE!

Gloating
The marks for a finance essay I wrote a few weeks ago just came out. And I'm bouncing off the walls.
I'VE NEVER RECEIVED SUCH A GOOD MARK FOR FINC BEFORE IM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW :'D
:')
So happy.
So so happy :') I feel like my academic life is finally coming together.
Maybe the market was impressed with my full page journal article reference list. Someone who read over 20 finance articles deserves a few extra points right?
:') so happy.
Ps. Please note that my expectations are ALOT lower than everyone else's, because Im uh, dense and stupid when it comes to this topic. Heeheeeeeee
Pps. Half of this happiness stems from knowing this good mark came from hard work. IT ALL PAID OFF.

New things
Some of you might know that the "T" key on my laptop is malfunctioning. As I was tapping away at the keyboard earlier this morning, trying to be a conscientious student - not doing my last assignment for the semester at the last minute, I paused, and went back to read the paragraph that I had just typed.
No T's anywhere.
No fcking T's anywhere. The paragraph was a maze of red squiggles and I wanted to scream.
I snapped.
I got up out of my chair, grabbed my wallet, keys and phone, got in the car and drove to my local shopping centre to buy a fricking keyboard.
Got the cheapest one at Dick Smirth ($30? I don't know why, but I thought keyboards would be around the $15-$20 mark. But I've never bought a keyboard before, so I pulled that number out of thin air) and now, my fingers are on CLOUDS. This keyboard is quiet, all the keys work (I tested them all out. Hooray!) and I think I'm in the mood to finish all my homework for the next week ahahaha.
Totes should have snapped earlier - like before my previous assignment was due. Would have saved a lot of blood/sweat/tears.
TGIF friends. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend (doing productive things like studying... because finals are coming up. sadface)

Super scary dream
I had a terrifying dream last night.
Our building had been invaded by people with huge guns. I was hiding but somehow one of the bad guys found me and pushed the barrel of his gun to the back of my throat.
I remember I was dream-thinking to myself "will it be painless? Or will I feel it? I hope I don't feel a thing. Please let it be quick".
And when he pulled the trigger I felt the metal hit my teeth and piece through the roof of my mouth- and just when I was thinking "this is not immediate death", I woke up.
This is the scariest dream I've had in a while.
I'm really thankful for the fact that we live in australia and that gun regulations are tight as.
I haven't been able to fall asleep after that. Ugh.

Real time action
I like to spend maximum time in bed in the mornings. After this screenshot was taken, I spent the next 50 mins lazing around in bed, thinking about everything I have to do today.
The 15 minutes after was spent sprinting around my house, brushing my teeth, microwaving my breakfast muffins, chugging down coffee, finding matching socks etc.
I left the house in a hurry, sprinted to my bus stop (which, thankfully is less than 100m away) and within 10 seconds, my bus arrived.
I was able to time this "just in time" business so effectively thanks to the real time notifications.
So thanks, Sydney Buses/city rail. It's nice when something works well 8)
For those who are concerned about my timeliness, don't worry :P The original bus I wanted to take was the 12pm. Just felt like a speedy challenge to start the day.

It's a bit premature to say
Anywho, I wanted to offload a few thoughts right now. I had an uncomfortable conversation with my parents last night. It started off with M scrolling through my fb feed after I left my phone on the coffee table.
I have a few friends our age who have kids right now and are a bit obsessed. Every few days, they'll upload a billion photos of recent baby birthdays or teething gums- I find all this a bit hard to relate to for obvious reasons.
Then M&D start talking about how some of their younger colleagues already have grandchildren etc. They looked at me and I said something like "probs not for another 8-10 years. Hassle me then."
AND THEN, D was like "E (cousin who's a few months younger) will probs give your uncle grandkids. Weird huh, him getting grandkids before me" (my uncle is a younger than my dad).
Maybe it was just me, but when he said that, I couldn't help but see a bit of his competitive side.
(Side track story: my dad is super competitive. And he also hates losing. When I was a kid, I used to always race him up stairs. Back in the day, he was probably 2-3 times my height, and when he raced me, he NEVER let me win. He ALWAYS ran at full speed up the stairs. That is how competitive he is lol. This probably nurtured my very brief career as a once-a-year athletics carnival sprinter back in high school. Thanks D.)
Anyway, I freaked out a bit but I learned that my cousin recently got a boyfriend. Recently. And her parents and my grandparents are already thinking about grandchildren. What the bloody hell. Way to jump the gun. Her mum is urging for her to get married (?) and D was like, that's not a bad idea.
K and I had our WTF faces on because in the past my family have been very vocal about their ideas on getting married early. "It's always a bad idea to get married earlier", "it's just based on a whim", "you'll come to regret it", etc (not that I was planning to anyway lol).
My parents are puzzling people, and I just had to share that.
I don't understand them.
They've never compared us academically or anything but now they're comparing this?!
I'm a bit scared tbh. They're a bit unpredictable. If this gets brought up again, I'm gonna bolt from room.
(Maybe they're subtly hinting to me that I should move out? Ahaha wishful thinking.)
BUT ARGHGRBGJCYT
I'm too young to have this conversation!

The King
Some time during, a seagull landed on the deck beside us and we saw it had a tag on its right foot. Started talking about animal tagging when suddenly the silent J spoke up.
"Nah mate, that ring on its foot means it's king of the gulls."
Maybe the cold had gotten to our heads, but at the time, it was the most ridiculously funny thing anyone could have said. We were laughing so hard we had to wipe tears from our eyes.
This type of conversation takes you nowhere, teaches you nothing and really has no meaning. But for the full five minutes of thigh slapping and teary eyes laughing, every lingering worry and thought just disappeared and I just had a really, really good laugh.
I always laugh at really weird things. But it's good to know that I've found other like people ahaha.

Check out the splendour line up! Looks really good - I actually really like some of these bands. The whole camping for a music festival idea sounds interesting also.
However $300-400 less spent here is $300-400 more in Europe. I think about the number of baguettes I can buy - and that will temporarily calm my urges to round up people to go on a weekend roadtrip. (Sort of not really. Since I got up this morning, I've already talked to 4 people about it lol).

TEARS AND BLOOD
My nose has suffered a lot recently.
During oztag, my face has collided with footies and shoulders.
I was doing pilates in my room, slipped and whacked my face into my knee (wtf, didn't even know it could reach).
Didn't realise that I could also hurt my face while sitting at the computer.. studying (actually stuDYING).
Lol jk, I was not studying.
I was watching the parody of the Dove ad (about balls) and boy was it hilarious.
So hilarious, that instead of flinging my head back to laugh, I flung my head forward. I had to muffle my laughter somehow because my parents think I'm studying.
Totes forgot that I was actually in the middle of studying and had my ring binder folder open.
SLAMMMMED my face into the metal rings and watched the scarlet blood pool spread all over my notes. \

Poor Virginia
I'm in bed at the moment, and this just cracked me up. I had to stuff a pillow in my face to muffle the sound.
Although this isn't really that big of a deal, you can't go really operate your business saying shit like "A MEDIUM LATTE FOR VAGINA... VAGINA... VAGINA?"
I feel so bad for the barista who has to call out the name.
Someone might even mistake it for the penis game.

Getting political
I see a number of ignorant posts about the labor govt not being able to bring the budget back to surplus this year.
Lay off. Seriously. Do you realise what will be cut if they really tried to bring it back to surplus? Education grants, infrastructure, health... What do you do with your surplus anyway? Spend it on the people. There's so much left to be fixed in the country.
I mean of course it can't be like this in the long term, but Aus still doesn't exactly have the largest working population, govt income from tax isn't enough.
Call me ignorant or whatever, I feel as though the current debate about our deficit is more of a political one rather than an economical one.

Things to look forward to
While I was procrastinating earlier, I realised one of the things I'm really looking forward to is listening to people's stories. I figured that while I spend over 2 months abroad, I'll probably cross paths with a lot of talkative travellers.
When you're travelling it's always ok to approach strangers and talk to them. When we were in Vegas, we started chatting to a NZ family on a bus. All that it took was "OMG you're kiwi's! We're from Sydney!". But in Sydney, I feel stupid if I do something like that, because I'm not a traveller. I don't have the right to approach strangers. Do you know what I mean?
You're a tourist, you're supposed to be curious, open and a bit enthusiastic! And yolo!
So yes. I'm really keen to be a tourist again. Like fuaaar, get me out of here. Drowning under assessments arrrghhh!
How is it almost eleven already :'( today's gone by too fast.

D told me I have a 3 month probation period - I'm not allowed to drive myself around for the next three months. I'm mad about and I think it's bullshit.
I think if he could, he would still strap me into a stroller.
Sometimes I wonder how different life would be if I was a guy, or the 2nd kid.
WHT
BBQ at a friend's house. Yeah it was nice, but the whole driving thing dampened my mood and therefore today is a shitty day.
So much angst left over from my teen days.

Fuaaar finance is not so bad
I learnt how to use my financial calculator. Now I can calculate how many days until my birthday with a few prompt taps into my calculator. Tres cool.
I can also calculate the IRR without using the guess and check method = WINNING.
Why did I not bother with this before? Could have saved myself so much pain/time.
2 exams tomorrow, but I'm so happy right now. :')

Misunderstandings
We heard bits and pieces about the marathon explosions in Boston this morning on the radio. I wasn't really tuning in (was trying to remember all my cases for today's exam), and I don't think D was paying full attention also because as I got out of the car he said "see? You shouldn't do c2s. Did you hear the radio? People die from doing marathons."
Anyway, I log into fb and one of my friends has posted "my thoughts are with you, Boston". I was confused. Why would your thoughts be with Boston if a runner has died from exhaustion?
So I googled Boston news.
It was not death by exhaustion, but 2 explosions.
My thoughts are with Boston (and income tax), and I really hope the city and the people recover from this.
D just really wants me to stop participating in any sport. =_=
Digressing, I got up at 5 today, ate breakfast, had a coffee and I'm feeling great. Wish I brought my gym gear. All this exam adrenaline pumping through my veins!!! I feel like I CAN DO ANYTHAAANG!

what's wrong with this world
Warning: It might be a bit explicit for some.
So I was sitting on the 546 the other day, minding my own business. I heard a few boys bantering on about girls and started eavesdropping a bit. I turned around to take a peek at one of the guys because I thought his voice sounded really familiar. I was right. It was B.
He was complaining about his gf, telling the guys about her hair down there, laughing and saying shit like "it's so gross". I know it's not 1920, but come on, talking about this sort of stuff on public transport is pretty off-putting.
That wasn't even the worst part though. He continued to tell the other guys that he started "banging some other chicks on the side". All his friends are like, "oh yeah" or "nice one".
WHAT.
THE.
HECK.
First of all, they're all my sister's age. I know K's nearly an adult, but to me, she is still 10. The thought of some of her friends being sexually active really freaks me out.
Next, talking about it in public - within earshot of kids.
With the hair - well, I'm more amused by this. Pubic hair on a toilet seat is gross. Pubic hair in a bar of soap is also really gross. But pubic hair in a pubic zone should be pretty damn normal. You only have the right to complain if you are also hair free.
And banging some other chicks on the side? That's just sad. Like, bro, you might have game, but you should see a doctor because you might have some STI's too.
The absolute worst thing is, I know the guy's girlfriend. She is a sweet girl. But every time I see her now, this thought will cross my mind.
I should not have eavesdropped on that convo.
Curiosity sure killed this cat.
