Incomprehensible

Hey guys,

I've just spent the past half hour looking at beach houses (for the long weekend) and seriously, I am gobsmacked. I pretty much have to pick up my jaw from the ground after letting it drop. These holiday houses are AH-FREAKIN-MAZIN'!!!!!

How can people afford these *-* oh my gosh.

All of a sudden, I have an urge to make a shitload of money so I too can have one of these in the future.

Fuaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrr. Seriously, is this the real life? Do some people really live like this everyday? Do they have money trees?!

One of these places even had a 6 hectare farm with a SHETLAND PONY.

... A Shetland pony?!

I gonna go and lay down for a bit and seriously reconsider my 10 year plan.

3 modes

Lately, I've discovered that I only have 3 modes.

1) Work mode
2) Zombie mode
3) Friday night mode

1) I am vibrant, awake and ready to work! Enthusiastic, happy and smiley is how I would describe my exterior. But I feel like everything I say has been said before (over and over again), and it's just all programmed to come out at the right time. At work, if you know your shit, you're good. This comes with experience. I think people at work think I'm fun. Ha!

2) Zombie mode is what I am like as soon as I walk out of the building at night. This lasts all weekend, and is usually turned off an hour or so after my first coffee!  Zombie Belle is quiet, out of the loop and quite often stares into space. I think you could scream abuse at me and I would not notice.

3) Friday night mode is usually activated after a drink or two after work. This is the most relaxed I will be because Monday morning seems very far away. The weekend has just started, so dude, just have fun. I can further elaborate on why Fridays are great - I freaking love it to bits!

Before I sleep on Thursday night, I plan my Friday outfit. It has to be conservative enough for the office, but chic-ish for a night out. AND YOU KNOW WHAT - I finally have the wardrobe to facilitate this. This post has taken a really vain turn. Hahaha.

If you dress nice, you have more confidence. When I have more confidence, everything I say sounds more legit. Forreals.

Favourite time of the week, EVER.

Corporate Fridays:

Last Friday, the partner came down to tell us "OK guys, I'm gonna be at the Glenmore from 3.30 - you all have to come blahblahblah".  So after lunch, I freaking worked like a machine to get my shit done and left work at 4.30.  Did not end up getting to the Glenmore until late though, because one of the other teams and ours decided that it was a perfect day for a pubcrawl (and it was!).

At the first stop, an annoying manager was the topic of our discussion. The general consensus was that he needed someone to unlodge a giant stick from his rectum, but all of a sudden, one of the seniors (who was really smashed at this point) yelled out "he just needs to get laid". Everyone laughed because it was funny. But then she continued with "if I slept with him, I think my life would be a lot easier". The laughter became awkward laughter which slowed and died down real quick as everyone grabbed their drink to avoid having to say anything.

Usually, when this sort of topic comes up (hypothetical question is usually "would you sleep with a partner if it guaranteed fast progression through the ranks?") everyone gives a vague answer like "yeah maybe" or "NO, don't you have an ounce of self respect?", but NO ONE ever brings up a name. The hypothetical questions are never "Would you do ______ to get better ratings?". You just don't because it would get hella awkward if word went around.

But she broke this unspoken rule.

And all hell broke loose.

People were throwing out names, lists of people they would "shag" (lol I love the English) to get ahead, and out of curiosity.

WHAT THE HELL.

I am not used to this - this is all a bit too liberal for my liking. Work is work, life is separate - you can never let the two merge because it gets messy and awkward. I gave my standard response when they asked me - you don't shit where you eat, and I got boo-ed. I'm not scandalous enough for them. Thank god.

So now I know everyone's "top 5"'s in the office and how freaky my colleagues can get after a couple of drinks. Needless to say, Monday morning was weird also. The girl who got really smashed cornered me as I was buttering my toast in the kitchen and apologised profusely.

ANYWAY, even though it was freaky and weird, it was a lot of fun to get to know more colleagues on a slightly more intimate level (lol).

A few pubs/bars after that eventful first scene, I went to dinner/sangria night with some old workmates/cadets and finally had some quality banter. I miss the banter and legitimate good times.

What started out as a wild night ended tamely - which is much preferred.

I think once uni starts, Friday will lose it's meaning to me.

Finishing up at work on Monday (fingers crossed that doesn't get pushed any further), so I'll cherish tomorrow - my last corporate Friday until July.

I haven't done a recount post in forever, but I figured this was worth jotting down.

To all my conservative readers, sorry for the subject and my swearing - it's just work. I'm glad its finishing up. I'm so over it now hahaha.

Update on the innuendo guy. I told him "can you not? Your innuendos are inappropriate." And do you know what he said?

He said "in your end-o".

freaking facepalm.

Life of audit = life of a paperbitch

Every year on this client, I insist that we do everything in soft copy. But every year my client gives me the same old lame excuse and gives me a stack of paper.

I'm pretty anal when it comes to my work, I think. I don't like to give managers an excuse to catch me out. I'm gonna take some time out today to commend myself on this. I work with a lot of people who half-ass their way through the day and it annoys me because managers pick me out to follow up their crappy efforts.

In saying this I'm really glad that the higher ups have started noticing that I put in the extra mile.

In other news, I'm getting bothered by a colleague and his innuendo jokes. Outside work, ok yes. But not in the office, or through email please.

Please.

Plain Jane

Opposites do attract. I say this because I'm sure too much similarity repels! For the first time ever in the history of my coffee drinking, I ordered a flat white. Just to be different from my friend. But I missed the foam in my usual cap :(

DIGRESSING

Without sounding too whingey, sometimes I wish I was more interesting as a person.

I hadn't seen C in about 2 years and the other night I found out that I haven't changed as much as I had hoped.

Although I may have "blossomed" (haha I'm not even making this up!!) I am exactly the same person inside.

Still indecisive as heck.

No idea what I really want to do.

And as much as I hate admitting it, I'm still a clinger.

I cling onto old stuff, comfortable stuff, old memories...

It's about time I got off the fence and started forming an opinion. No more sheepness.

No I just need to find some motivation.

Traditions

I don't know why but I love lion dancing SO much.

The colours, loud banging and clanging of gongs and booming drums and phwoar, the firecrackers?!

I also love touching the furry bits on the lions head :D

Makes any day a tonne better.

Well, it could be worse

When things get really shitty at work, my senior and I look to each other and say "well, it could have been worse".

Today was supposed to be a really good day off, but it didn't happen. Instead of talking about all the crappy stuff that happened, I'm going to dwell on the good stuff because when I look at it from an overall perspective, today was a damn good day.

First I got a sleep in because I got the morning off.

My lovely BFFL (I know this term is cheesy as, but excuse me, it's so applicable here) put up with my late-notice and had breakfast with me at Circa!

Ok so that's goodstuff part 1.

I got my honey soaked chai- tick.

The food we ordered was freaking delicious - tick.

And I met the chef- BOOMTICK BABY

Turns out C's friends with the chef dude, and I SHOOK HANDS with him. Only food bloggers get to do that. I'm so pleased. Ahaha. By looking at that picture, you can tell that he is an excellent egg poacher.

After brekkie, I took a train to work- and when I got to the platform, the train had just arrived. I will count this as goodstuff number 2. I hate waiting for anything, so I was super grateful that time was on my side today.

Once I got to work, all my friends in the US were online- and they all left me a message. :):) my favourite cadets were also online (it was recently our three year anniversary at work). Goodstuff no. 3

Went down to Pausa laneway during lunch for my Toby's estate coffee and WOWEE, they know my name and my order now! <3 number 4

The mean mgr said something good about me to the partner. Number 5.

I got to choose where to buy dinner from tonight- LA ROSA PIZZA. My favourite non-Asian dinner place. Number 6.

Got home late, but in the cab ride home, I had fb and whatsapp open, full flying convo going on. Number 7.

Oh and a chump is back from holidays. Number 8.

Life is pretty sweet. Esp considering that my only problems are a) ones that I cause for myself, and b) work related.

Oh plus, my old sushi+froyo routine is happening again, and it was such a good night seeing the gang yday. So fricking hilarious.

Summarising my day like this makes me realise I have a lot to be grateful for. Thanks guys :D you all make my day just a bit more than "just bearable". <3

Ps. Happy valentines day!! I have a super hot date - a reporting deadline!

Small things

I changed the music in my phone last night.

I was reminded last night that all my problems are minuscule and definitely first world ones, woke up with a fresher mindset! Hope this lasts haha.

I pulled out a nice blouse from my wardrobe this morning with no fuss matching it to my skirt.

The combination of these unrelated events is making me feel great right now.

Today will be a good day.

Have a great day y'all!

Sleepless in the suburbs

Hello.

I had a giant bowl of coffee today.

I can't sleep now, so I guess that must have been a contributing factor.

This is petty but also because I chipped into someone's birthday present and someone left me off the card :'( and now I'm scared my friend will be like... What?!

Damnit.

And I have work tomorrow D:

Wow I can still feel the brioche toast I ate this morning going down and being digested by my stomach. Le Petit Creme serves a darn good breakfast, but go with people who can eat a lot because their servings are mammoth. If you go with people with tiny appetites (like I did), you will suffer from a major case of food coma for the rest of the day/night.

Man, if it wasn't such a waste, I'd heave it all back up. That's how bad I feel right now.

Minding my own business when suddenly...

Today a Jehovah's Witness woman plonked herself down on a bench and chatted to me about the search for happiness for over an hour.

Although she was really pleasant to chat to, she made me realise how tolerant I can be, and how open I am about things. I never realised their beliefs were so extreme and much they tried to enforce it on others.

So judgey.

Cny

Happy lunar new year guys!

Before I left the house this morning my parents made me eat a few pieces of nian gao/leen go lol- which made me late for the bus!

Currently omw to brunch at le petit creme!! Excited! But I'm late!

E-Z

It's not easy to get everyone out together at the same time.

But when it happens it's usually a sweet night out.

Thanks guys :)

I think the sister fajitas at the flying fajita sister is the best deal evur. We ordered 2 sister fajitas (four types: steak, snapper, king prawns and chorizo) and white sangria. Ended up costing $30 pp. pretty good considering it was the glebe area.

NEXT STOP ALMUSTAFAS! I saw a belly dancer there last night and now I know I must dine in the presence of one!

Have a great weekend guys!! (Happy lunar new year to all my fellow azns harhar. The year of the snake - sounds so ominous!)

when someone says sorry

So out of Frank Ocean's ocean of daily tweets, I found one relatively practical and less teen-drama-ish, and I took the liberty of retweeting it.  This guy... seriously... tweets so much everyday.  I find his melodramatic tweets bloody annoying, but I stay subscribed because every now and then, he comes up with a pretty good quote.

Such as "Sometimes we expect too much of others, just because we would be willing to do more for them".

I so understand right now.

Sometimes I do things for other people because I'm nice. I don't need recognition - sometimes I do it without them realising.  It's just sad when they don't do the same for you.

I guess they're not nice enough.

:P

Is it really that important?

Yesterday 3 people asked me what my relationship status was. (wth so out of the blue)

I said I'm pretty much taken.

His name is Work and these past few weeks, I've been spending most of my time with him.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner almost everyday.

I've become his bitch.

I have to say... it's quite an abusive relationship.  But I'll deal with it.

the real introduction

When you meet your audit client for the first time, what you should really say is:

"Hi, I'm [insert name] from [accounting firm].  My team and I will be here to haunt you for the next [number] weeks.  I know you have little time, but please know that we need to do our job also. Be prepared to know your stuff - because the questions that we ask may test you. Please do not get frustrated at these because this will raise our suspicion and might require us to dig deeper.  Also, just as a disclaimer, you will probably have to replenish the coffee beans in your grinder and refill the cookie jar more often as they will be our main source of sustenance throughout the long nights. Thanks!"

Am I ready for another week of audit?

No.

But I'll deal with it.

But anyway, hi guys. Aside from my worker's depression and missing out on sleep, I think I'm dealing with life ok. Once uni starts, I'll be fine.

Final year of uni.

I'm going to try to live it up this year because I know I have to "grow up" afterwards.

But can I just say, it is so hard transitioning from work to uni and from uni to work. It's not just the timing or the workload. It's communicating with people.

At uni, people are so much more optimistic, naive and open minded.  At work, they are the opposite. It's like they're people who've seen the light at the end of the tunnel - but only to realise that it's just a torch, with miles and miles of tunnel left to go...

In the week of work I have left, I hope I meet someone who has a more optimistic outlook on life. I hope no one tells me to quit again, because I know I'm too easily influenced.

So much stuff has been changing around all aspects of my life. I have a problem dealing with everything at once. So bear with me and all these venting posts. I'll try to make them entertaining or insightful.

Keyword: try.

ANYWAY, hope you all have a great week. Good luck to all the postgrad med folks who start tomorrow. BRIGHT 'n EARLY kiddos. Learn lots and save lives!!

Time stops not for belle

Hi all.

I need to vent even though its 2am and I just finished enrolling in stuff for K /uni.

I freakin hate ass kissing. And because of this, someone I don't think I'll make it that far in this job.

That is all.
