The dictator

Last night was great.

To be honest, I'm quite relieved there was no booze. At the ripe age of 20 (bahaha), I'm sick of seeing people get smashed at birthday parties.  Yeah - really turning into a grandma now.  We were high on life and I had such a blast (many thanks to the photobooth!!!!!).   I took out my camera for the first time in yonks (my Melb photos from last year are still there and I can't remember if I ever blogged about beautiful Melb :) and took a few nice pics (and a quite a few inappropriate ones). Costume themes are always fun, but are even better when all guests have made the effort :D

Anyway, today I went to class, caught up with C (:D), got a free bag of chips from the vending machine (woo! good day streak), caught up with L & J over dinner and watched The Dictator.  On the bus ride home I also sat next to a well groomed guy who defos uses the same washing liquid as me!  Completely random, but I really enjoy it when people smell nice (hurrhurr how creepy of me).

The Dictator had me (quite literally) LOLing from beginning to end.  Afterwards I went onto rotten tomato to see what other people had thought about it.  I was a bit surprised with the comments because quite frankly, I thought this was an awesome movie.  It's HILARIOUS.

What was really cool was the demographics in the cinema.  There were old couples, young couples, teens, and inbetweeners like myself, L and J.  Oh man. I'm still giggling.

Time to upload photos! Something I haven't said in quite a while!

Hope y'all had a happy Monday!!

(nothing beats a free pack of chips from the vending machine!!)

DEAR BENJAMIN YUEN

HELLS YEAH!!

I have been a fan, and have seen all your tv shows since 2008. I don't care if you're involved in a scandal right now. And I don't care that what you said to me doesn't really make sense to me. I'm feeling giddy and really starstruck at the mo. This is an emerging celebrity in HK. *hyperventilates*

I'm on a roll because these few days have been so damn good.

Ps on an unrelated note, can someone call me if they spot the Eat Art Truck?

I treat my blog like twitter

I've been waiting all day for my lecturer to post up my tute questions which are due tomorrow. This is going into my feedback. It's irresponsible and I expect more from a tertiary institution :| now I don't have time to do my hw :(

dangerous heights

This is actually a really scary video. Beyonce had a really nasty fall in one of those clips :| Ohmagad. I have a brand new pair of 13cm platform pumps sitting in my closet, but after watching this, I feel really ugh about taking them out. Comfort > style. I don't want to break my ankle.

COSTUME PARTY TOMOZZA. Excited :D Trust me to rock up in costume if there is a theme. It's so much fun!!

Today was so mad. I got home really late/early from L's 21st, but it was all cool with the rentz cos they were fast asleep when I got back and I got no questions in the morning. I feel somewhat triumphant. Woke up in the morning and showed off the ink on my wrists to K, had brunch at Cabra - OH, sidetracking a little bit:

After brunch when we were still at Cabra, a tour bus pulled up next to the footpath, and much to the shock of K and I, non-asian people starting piling off the bus.  Don't know about you, but having lived in Sydney all my life, I pretty much associate Chinese or Japanese people with tour buses. They come in their crowds and alight outside the entertainment centre. We didn't stick around to eavesdrop on the tourguide, but I had an inkling that this had something to do with the tv show, Once upon a time in Cabramatta. (I don't actually remember it being that bad. We were just there for the Pho. In and out. I've lived a sweet life). Anywho, I just found that WAY amusing.

Today was family day, so we ended up hitting Spotlight to help me find a costume. Spent We were in the store for half an hour but I'm sure we spent about 25 minutes trying on all the hats and wigs on display. Rofl. Can't upload photos for some weird reason- ugh technical glitch, so I'll post it up another day.

Afterwards we headed into the city for the Vivid Light Festival. It was mad, but not as good as last year. The best thing was the streetfood.  Well, the limited food stalls that were there anyway. Pretty decent food I think. Lamb, prawn, chicken skewers with the most delicious tzatziki sauce ever. We had some cheesy spinach and chicken gozleme, some paella and some pad thai. We also downed some hot mulled wine which was very, very delicious and warmed us up very nicely. M and I also spent alot of time at Darling Park, climbing that rope jungle gym thing. My hands are a bit sore right now, but holy moly, it's so much fun.

Today I realised that M & D are really cute. Do you guys ever think that about your parents? I know its really weird, but I was scrolling through a few photos and I couldn't help but giggle a bit because they're so darn cute. Esp M. Maybe it's because she's vertically challenged, and looks a bit like a midget next to the rest of the fam. Ahaha.

I love family day. :D  It's so much fun when no one's arguing or pissed off.

Lookin up

Nothing greater than the feeling of success.

Today happened to be a super awesome one where everything went according to plan. I didn't miss my bus, I got on the right train and I even got time to buy a choc croissant this morning. Had my favourite class, went to gym, had the best shower there (I really like their shower gel! Smells like vanilla and coconut), was just in time for the train. Now heading home to change and get ready for a friends 21st.

Good or what?

Ps isn't the doggy cute?

Pps THERE ARE TOO MANY GOOD LOOKERS AT MY GYM!!! THIS IS TOO DISTRACTING!

Balsamic vinegar and autocorrect

Tried strawberries and balsamic vinegar- unlikely combination that everyone raves on about - its ok I think. I think I like strawberries by themselves. I don't like the idea of dipping it in chocolate, because in comparison the strawberry isn't as sweet and the chocolate overpowers the natural flavor. Same deal with condensed milk. Vinegar apparently draws out the natural flavour. Maybe I was doing it wrong :/ it just tasted balsamic to me :D

Anyway, some of you will know that I am a huge fan of damnyouautocorrect.com. I started reading through the text and stopped after reading "gwenith petrol". Don't know why I found this so amusing, it's just so stupid. That's defos not autocorrected.

Ö <-- shocked face

Ahaha, anywhos, hope you all have a great weekend. Mines super packed and I'm super excited because I finally have something to be excited about!!

All rugged up

Bomber jacket and boots. I've been waiting forever for the right weather to come along so I can wear this to uni. It's so warm.

Some people don't mind cold. I'm not one of those people. I'd rather feel hot than cold.

Now if only I had a pair of gumboots :D

Groggy morning

Awoke today in the most distressful manner. I rolled off my bed.

Climbed back in and here I am now. If I could I would stay in bed all day, but alas I have class at 3 today and have a few errands to run. Zzz finance.

I had a dream about really mundane stuff. I dreamed that X and I were texting and when I woke up I thought it actually happened. Went back though my text history and didn't find anything. Man, that feeling sure is weird. It felt so real :|

ANYWAY
Watched a few insanity vids and I realised I have very low tolerance for pain/burning. I had a feint desire to participate in the city2surf this year, but after 3 km on the treadmill aahaaa what a joke. No way.

Dear Ed

You are my favourite ranga.

I. love. this. song. so. much. right. now.

The video was confusing at first. I had my wtf face on for 3 or so minutes. But then it was all good :)

Top comment:  Stop with the harry potter jokes. I'm Sirius.

PS. I was too cheap to buy the official food elimination diet recipe book. Totally regret not getting it. I don't know what to make without using chemicals, or processed goods. After this month, I will so be qualified to be a housewife. I've been put in charge of meals for the next few weeks. 8|

Worried. Worried that we're not going to eat anything good. Oh god.

Taste of Shanghai

Every now and then we default and have dinner atToS. Even though the service is no good and neither is the atmosphere, we always go back because they have the most delicious sweet and sour pork. Shang style pork > canton sweet and sour pork any day. I've experimented in the past but haven't quite got the flavours right. I know it uses dark vinegar, soy, slabs of sugar, ginger, prunes and maybe a bit of rice vinegar, but I can't quite get the flavor right.

I think we eat a lot for a family of four. Eh.

So sleepy even though I was in bed until 9.30 this morning.

Anywho. Will be experimenting and making potato muffins and shepherds pie this week so I'll let you know how that goes!

For the next 4 weeks

Cooking dairy and gluten free.

All in the name of health.

I really hope this helps. Did you know gluten free flour costs $4, $3 more expensive than normal plain flour?!

D also has to cut tomatoes out of his life :| life without tomatoes is no life at all. Life without milk is also no life at all. I ha a soy latte today. It tasted like cardboard. I am not even exaggerating.

Part of me wants to cry, but deep down inside I'm really excited to be preparing western food for the next few weeks.

HELLO POTATOES!

Improvising

Banana bread.

Added a pear because I realised I only had half a banana to work with.

Ate so much butter today. Sooo delicioussssss!

Two reasons why today was awesome

A pretzel after uni for sodium, and a choc croissant after gym to replenish energy. Totally justifies having two baked goods (three actually because the lovely K was baking this morning when I was still asleep. Brekkie = giant ass (haha. No.) mutated muffin!) in one day.

I LOVE PRETZELS
I LOVE CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS
I LOVE TODAY

Beautiful zombie day

Virtually got no sleep last night.

After I finished my essay I just watched food videos until morning.  For some weird reason, I felt fine in the morning. Hit up Birkenhead Point (yet again) for an early lunch. Sushi Hero is the bomb. This is the deluxe box. I love salmon. I LOVE SALMON. I LOOOVE SALMOOON!!! I was probably a grizzly bear in my past life. Haaaa.

Instagram-y goodness:

actually - this was brunch :/
the marina

How lovely is it? We sat outside for a while. It was pretty chilly so we headed back inside (in hindsight, we should have just stayed outside. It was just as cold inside!)

Anyway, they (scientists I think) say that lacking sleep is like being drunk. It is true. I almost got run over a few times today. It was awful. I had conversations with people and right now I can't remember what we talked about. My eyes were wide open the whole time but I'm sure they were unfocussed and glazed over. Sorry to the peeps I bumped into today. Wasn't feeling my best. Don't know what to say, I was in zombie mode!

That is, until about 10pm. Caffeine hit finally kicked in and I was practically doing cartwheels around the house.

Digressing... my parents often joke about how it's unfortunate to have 2 daughters. Reasons as follows:
  1. No one to pass on family name.
  2. Fighting over the bathroom in the morning.
  3. Because girls supposedly eat less, dads with daughters become pudgey over the years from eating leftovers, and dads with boys look skinny.
  4. So expensive!
Point 4 is probably true - though luckily for M&D, I have a very stable disposable income from work and can afford these little luxuries. K owns nothing because she A) has no money, and B) has no need to get her own. She just comes in and grabs whatever, whenever (infact, this mess is 50% her fault, she never puts things back where they come from). Never realised I accumulated so much stuff over the past 2 years.  Boys are pretty vain too these days. But yerrr, D can't talk because he has a wide array of cologne, perfume and aftershave too.

I don't know if this is alot, or average? I just know its really messy and I'm half ashamed for posting this up. Haha. Just half!

mushrooms and finance essays

Pan fried button mushrooms vs oven baked ones. I think I like the latter better. When they're in the oven, they don't lose their pillowy juiciness (covered with foil), rather, if you put them together with bacon strips, they'll soak up the fatty goodness and become super pillowy and juicy bacon-esque button mushrooms. I also poached eggs this morning after I got back from le-gym. (why gym you ask? Because compared to last week, I gained a questionable kilo. Muscle mass hopefully? Also because last night I read in a Chinese paper that gyms are the cleanest in the morning)

ANYWAY, today I also realised how important finance (the subject) actually is. I keep moaning on and on about how much I hate it but I never really realised that it would be so... Substantial? I'm writing 1000 words about negative gearing, and it's dawned on me how practical this question is. It's not like my other subjects where stuff you do at uni will probably differ from what you do in the job. Negative gearing is HELLA important and so very interesting, especially to people looking to buy property. People like me (in the future ofc). We have to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of negative gearing, with regards to the risk and return based on the volatility market, also making reference to the finance media. I'm really glad. This assignment was made for me. Tell me to write 1000 words about financial theories or the black-scholes model, and I will scream, cry and give you hell.

Dear AL, even though you're bad at lecturing and good at setting shitty midsem exam questions, THANK YOU so much for setting a 'real life' essay question so that I can redeem myself after the horrid MSE.

I wish I was passionate about finance.

More more cha

So it turns out I've known the best friend for ten years. A WHOLE MUTHAFRIGGIN' DECADE. I feel so old now, ahaha!  Anyway, our planned catch up for three turned into a celebration for two (A, you missed out on some good food).

We decided to go to More More Cha because EVERYTIME I walked past Dixon St in Chinatown, I'd see the waiters throw around roti like frisbees. Spinning the dough on their fingers, stretching it, throwing it to each other... I'd just stop in my tracks and watch. They look like they're having fun too.

Anyway, pics. Sozza they're not in order. I don't know why but I can't drag them like I normally do. They are also small and blurry - sorry. I sent them to my draft inbox and they just sorta shrunk, and then I stretched them out again. D:  If you want beautiful food photos, may I suggest you HIT THAT for a graphical account by a REAL food blogger. The photos look a bit... instagramy there, but it's just the way I like it! [stalk me on instagram: mishmashmoshx]  This feels like a bit of half assed post, but I have an essay to write about negative gearing. So if you'll excuse me :)

Durian Panacotta
Good feed, good company :)
More More Noodle
Beef rendang nasi lemak
Roti canal with curry, anchovy chilli jam and Indian dahl
Pandan chicken
Pandan sago (I sure love my pandan)

All in all, it was a super good experience. I LOVE the pandan chicken entree. My only complaint is there are only three pieces on the plate! It's so delicious!! If you get the chance, skip the line at Mamak and give More More Cha a go.

Why is Malaysian food so delicious?

PS. To all those that find this familiar: Cockykid, Slubbermoosh, Choc Chewy, Chuc Chewy, Rubberneck, Pinch him, DogLice, y'all have a spesh place in my heart 8) Glad I got to pretty much grow up with all of you and see everyone turn into an adult. Ten years... TEN YEARS!! Dat shit cray!

PPS. In zumba today, I heard the most fantastic song.  Someone mixed a few pop songs together and sorta jumbled up the lyrics "i need a dollar" turned into "i need a miracle".  Sounds lame when I put it into words.  :D I love zumba.

Dear state government

What the farque?!?

According to mx (the worlds most reliable source of information) "cityrail ... Will be made smaller and re-branded as Sydney Trains ... 750 middle managers will be offered voluntary redundancies..." (mX tues 15/5/12).

Does this mean I no longer get to hop on express services coming from the central coast? Doesn't that mean 750 people will lose their jobs?

Eff of Gladys. I hope you're joking.

Fancy a cuppa?

Very recently:

Funnily enough it tasted like bubbly :/

Charlie lovett - latte

Charlie Lovett - Creamy belgium hot chocolate

GJ iced coffee mother-loaded with caramel and cream

Starbucks hot choc

Funky iced tea at charlie lovett

I also drink at least 2L of water a day now. Easily. I can't help indulging? Is that bad? Since I can't go to NZ, or go on exchange, and my graduation trip is so far away, I can't feel motivated enough to save.

Hope you're all enjoying assessment season. I'm practically buried under them!

Hope you all spoil your mothers!

Mamak -Chatswood

Honestly have no clue what some of these dishes are called. Two of them were particularly spicy!!

Even so it was such a fulfilling meal! I was über hungry at the time. There's nothing better than shoveling spoonfuls of coconut milky flavored rice into your mouth when you are absolutely starving.

Friday Dinner for one

Promised M I'd be home for dinner because I've been missing too many fam dinners. Made a salad with pear, avo and quinoa 8) and no one ate it with me. They think I'm eating birdseed?

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

If breakfast was this cute IRL ...

... I'd eat it everyday.

Had an awful day, but it's about to get worse. Essay due tomorrow. 0% done and totally my fault. 😞

June, you're a piece of shit.

'Piece of shit' is the only thing that comes to mind when I think of June.

I know I'm not verbose or very good at extending my vocabulary, but WHAT THE HELL so many assessments due. Not to mention birthdays (2 in my immediate family at least).

My corps law exam is the day before my accounting exam. Er giving me less than 20 hours (incl sleep) to prepare. D: *glug*  I really wanted to do better than just pass, but I guess that will be left for another semester. I guess this applies to all my other subjects too.

How did the semester pass by so quickly.

Anyway, onto another (quite) distressing topic. Ski trip to NZ. Not happening for me this year. Sucks bawls. My snow buds (aka my work friends) only have ONE week free for the next few months. The last week of June, i.e. my last week of exams :'(  So I'm not going - unless I can find another bunch of friends willing to spend $$$ to ski with me.

At least I know for sure I am defos doing something during Dec/Jan. Either:
- internship
- going back to work
- Taiwan
- US

I am NOT going to spend another year end break doing nothing.

Anyway, hope you're all having a lovely week - tell me about your June's. I want to see more hate on this topic. I wish our semester started with UTS, one week earlier so I'd be done by 3rd week already. If you see me bludging in June, please prod me hard with a sharp-as stick. I need to get crackin' on study!

Another 21st

Two days, two birthdays. I'm exhausted, coming home late on both days. Getting old. My body can barely haul itself off the bed in the morning.

The best part of this is being able to wear a dress. On normal days, wearing a dress (I find) is impractical and you have to sit properly and all that. My massive oztag bruise is still partially swollen and it still hurts to bend, so wearing jeans is a mega bitch. I'm just really glad I've been getting away with wearing stockings or trackies all weekend.

Mm it's getting cold ain't it? Time to whip out bomber jackets, coats and scarves!

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend!

Saturday, May 5, 2012

I guess it's true, is this socially acceptable and another 21st

Hi guys,

Dead tired but I can't sleep. The Internet on my phone is a bit dodge, and scrolling through fb or instagram is now an extremely tedious task. If this post does end up getting published, it's meant to be.

Is it socially unacceptable to wear the same dress/hairstyle 2 days in a row to two separate 21sts, with NO mutual invitees? (checked on fb earlier lol).

Cos I'm so feeling the Zooey Deschanel look in New Girl and I just want to show off my cobalt blue skater dress. I LOVE IT.

It was my childhood friend's 21st tonight. Because we don't hang at uni, or have many mutual friends, I thought tonight would be incredibly awkward. I even told my parents that I would probably be coming home earlier than usual.

BUT, that didn't happen. Quite the contrary. Turns out I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Tonight's celebration of life turned into a 'so how did you meet N' discussion. And this is of course a great way to meet a bunch of new people.

***

Big road trip tomorrow.
