Kooky

Dear all,

I am so tired.

Work has been busy but good. The senior on my current job is leaving in June and so if I decide to work in July ill pretty much have to take over her role.

D: so I'm trying to grasp onto new concepts- learning about US property revals (a bit confusing!) this week!

I tried lining up at Ippudo Sydney TWICE this week, but alas, I hate lining up so we gave up.

I also watched the Belvoir Street Theatre production of Peter Pan, thanks to work for giving me tickets :D. It was REALLY GOOD! I say this because I had relatively low expectations for this play. But it's an adaptation, so there are bits you don't expect. The cast is amazing- taking up numerous roles. And hot damn, it was so funny!

I've also been watching the tennis on evenings that I haven't been working. Intense. I feel kinda sad to know that I'm really shit at swinging a racquet at a tennis ball... But what can you do.

Because of a few work delays, I had to host a conference call at work yday - straya day. I had beach plans with the team actually, so we just took the call from a quiet cafe and muted the phone when any noisy children walked by. After the call, we hit the waves again in our giant inflatable thongs (Havaiana Thong Challenge!!!). But after than we just went back to work =_=

I need a haircut.

Not quite a flattering angle

Ankle still hurts like a bitch when I walk on it for too long, but hey, these shoes look great.

Work this week has been SO much better. The team, the client, the location - and so far I've gone out for lunch each day with non work people.

Very pleasant week so far. Tomorrow we get busy, but I'm fine with that. 3 more hectic weeks and no more audit for a while.

Lately I've been thinking about crossing service lines... Particularly to tax.

Pros: pay, hours, location
Cons: rare chance to go on secondment

Because of that con, I've held off talking to my manager about what I've been thinking. The only reason I joined audit was for all the travel ops.

Sigh. What a quandary.

Too intense!!

Last night I was so keen to see djokovic win.

Reason: if he won, I would have gone to bed earlier.

I was actually rooting for Wawrinka- man, he really deserved to win- IT WAS SO INTENSE. Such an epic game!!! I'm glad I stayed awake for it because I know people at work will be talking about it ;D

ANYWAY, kinda depressed its Monday, but just super thankful I have a great team to work with this time.

Hope you all have a super great week!!!

Morning vent

Had dinner at jonga jip last night. Loved it! As per usual!

Anyway, it's 7.20 right now- during the week I would have been on my way to work at this very moment or sitting in that audit room already trying to sort through all that shit.

This week's really been frustrating and the feeling of being thrown in the deep end is quite scarring. The team didn't work together that well- I've never seen so much conflict at work... Ever! We had a Vaccie on the team- he was such a burden on the rest of us.

I guess I'm pretty anal about my documentation. If you look at all my work papers, I have to make sure there are no typos, weird highlights, formatting issues, etc. I mean, it's a professional work paper and could be examined by courts/the ASX, etc. He was going through his work carelessly, ruining linked documents, misspelling a TONNE of words ("diffrence is imaterel" wtf, do you not speak perfect English?). This is not a blog. You are getting paid to be professional. Ugh.

I haven't worked with this team before, but I've been working on this client since I started audit, so as weird as this sounds, they've been the ones keeping me sane this week. I feel like my presence is under appreciated and all my extra hard work has gonna unnoticed by the other auditors but seen by the finance team lol.

Usually cadets rank at the bottom of the team. Everyone else that started at the same time as me is almost a senior accountant now. And my managers know this so they ask for me to step up. But because I'm still technically a cadet, I still have to do so much groundwork. It's like doing two jobs with only enough time to do one.

Seriously considering moving into commercial after I graduate. I have no control over my portfolio and none of my managers will let me leave the job because I know the clients well.

Adult life is so hard.

In saying that, I do not regret taking on the cadetship because its brought me a lot of good experiences too.

I'm just so pissed off that I have to work this weekend and its so hard.

/ end work spew

Life is ok though. I'm not exactly at where I want, but unlike work, I get to choose my friends, and I happen to have the best bunch around town.

Thanks guise :):)

Adding another resolution to the list

I need to be better at adapting.

You know when you have something to say, you usually plan it? Like how it should be delivered, when and you normally play the situation in your head a bit? When the sitch is different irl, I have trouble slotting in my convo and spend the whole time thinking... is now a good time to break the stream of conversation to ask a potentially stupid question? Which it never is. So I come home, unsatisfied with having no answer to a question/suggestion I should have asked/made. Sometimes when the situation changes, I completely forget to ask about stuff.

Also stuff like people's names- I always forget them nowadays esp when we're introduced in a quick/rushed way. You can't ask for their name again after the second or third meeting (yeah I'm really atrocious) and on the fourth meeting ITS TOO LATE. There was this cool girl in my tute last sem- I never got around to finding out her name. It was in Chinese- and the roll was predominantly made up of Chinese students :P it's been months and its STILL bugging me.

So annoying.

First day of fieldwork today. I woke up before my alarm- I think I'm still in between timezones. Wishing you all have a great day- despite the not so great weather. Yesterday's cloud and light sprinkling was kind of a relief. I wast exactly ready to plunge myself into 30+ deg heat. But still, wishing for a sunny day!

CAN YOU BELIEVE I LOST WEIGHT ON HOLIDAYS?!

3 planes, 3 security checks and many aeroplane meals later, IM FINALLY HOME!

Had a bitch-ass trip home, but I'm too jetlagged right now to think properly.

I have to go into the office tomorrow.
So not ready.

Strange things with strangers

After a month on the road, I feel like I've met a lot of travellers. The weirdest thing is that sometimes when you find someone who is on the same wavelength as you, you can chat for hours about stuff you find harder to talk to about with friends.

Like just today, one of the housemates (big brother flashback!) started telling me her life story- her parents divorce, moving to London and then Amsterdam, dropping her science degree and taking up photography.

Do people really talk about that sort of stuff on the first meeting?

It's just strange how easy it is to slip into one of these conversations with people you barely know.

But oh man, that girl is the coolest person I have ever met. I wish I was her ;D I feel like stuff I think about is so minuscule/irrelevant in comparison!

My neck hurts like crazy and my throat is hoarse from talking/laughing but it was so worth it.

In other news, I'm in dc, but will be home in less than a week. Psyched for my detox sesh (asif) and SUMMER.

40 degree heat? Bring it on bitches!

My third post related to new years

Hello friends, fiends, randoms and predators!

Welcome to another year of my unproductive ramblings. This year, I'll start off with a nice picture of an ice sculpture taken in Boston on NYE.

Apart from it being super cold, Boston is actually a really nice place to kick back and chill out during the holidays. After spending almost 2 weeks in ny, I was pretty sick of making my way through the swarms of people as soon as I got out of the upper west side.

During the holidays, Boston is apparently "really dead"- esp during the winter and the college kids have gone home. But NYE is when all the koolkats come out to play. The city comes alive!! Ice sculptures are everywhere, spectacular fireworks are set off every few hours and the roads are packed with people all decked out in multi coloured flashing lights, novelty glasses and vuvuelas.

At some point, a huge dance party broke out downtown and the bass was so overpowering, you couldn't even hear the song! I somehow found my way into the mosh that was forming and let me tell you, it's hard to have this much fun wearing that many layers... in the snow!

I do not regret at all, not spending NYE in Times Square. I watched the ball drop on TV and the confetti and it's just so.. crazy because of the number of people there.

My friends from uts also happened to be in Boston so I caught up with them at 1am (I think my parents were really pissed that I kept running away from them on this trip), but it was so nice to catch up with them. I was a bit ceebsy to begin with but thought #yolo, why the heck not?! AND IT WAS GREAT! Ended up eating at the dumpling cafe which was open til 2 and that was my last meal in Boston.

Got back to my room and spent some quality time on whatsapp and fb before snoozing for 2 hours.

Awoke at 6 to get to the station for our bus out of Boston and into NYC. I slept like a log on the whole trip. In NYC, we took the subway to our next bus station to be transported to Washington, D.C. Waited for 1.5 hrs in the wind to get on the bus before M got some attention, chucking a hissy fit. Stopped in Delaware, got stuck in some mad traffic along the way and FINALLY arrived in the Capitol at 7. Fml. So much time spent traveling today.

A series of shitty events also happened afterwards- but I'll elaborate on those in another post because I really need to calm down before I start complaining. And also because K is bothered by the light on my phone.

Happy new year (I keep saying this lol) everyone
