Hello all,
As you can probably tell, I'm not a very thrifty spender. I usually buy what I like, when I feel like it. Consequently, I am not a very good saver.
I know I spend the majority of money on food. The past two weeks, I've had the following:
- Meals at the cafe opposite my current building, averaging around $12 each. I had all 5 lunches there last week, and this week on Monday and Tuesday. Total $84.
- Because I've been working late, I've been getting the munchies more often, and that vending machine downstairs isn't doing me any favours. Pretzels = $1.80, Burger Rings = $1.80, Crunch chocolate bar = $2.40. I've had Pretzels 4 times + Burger rings once + Crunch 4 times. Total $18.60. (WTFFFFFFFFFF)
- Dinner on Saturday night at Hogsbreath. Total: $30
- Baskin + Robins on after Hogsbreath. Total: $7.something.
- Dinner on Sunday night at Viva Goa (should probably blog about that). Total: Just under $20.
- Lunch for Wednesday + Thursday: Chunky. Total = $6.
- Munchies Wednesday + Thursday: $5
- Cans of coke- 3. Total: $4.50
Wow. My heart just broke.
Or rather, my stomach.
As of yesterday, I am on my "I'm-going-to-save-money-for-Tetsuya's" plan. I have not visited the vending machine (went to Woolies on Monday night) or the cafe.
Status: Still feeling very motivated to save. Except I have run out of cans and don't know what to have for lunch tomorrow !!!
7 screams of joy:
Try and come home more for dinner? Hmm, yeah I fear I may also become a thrifty spender in the not too distant future...
Sounds like you need a budget ;)
Lemme start you off
Food: $60/week
DONE!
borbored's budget would save you like $30 a week. You'd be fine without the dinners.
@James: ah. if i come home for dinner i dont see my friends.
@bosco: trying. hard. don't know how you do it.
@jason; i see friends at dinners. it's either food, or movies. both are expensive. :( why does having fun need to cost so much?
1. Bring lunch every day
2. Limit yourself to 2 dinners a week at $20 each
3. Leaves you $20 for snack foods
4. DON'T BUY SNACK FOODS
5. You'll feel more guilty if you buy snack foods with the remaining $20 and hopefully won't spend that $20 :P
6. Probably ends up at $50 for food a week.
Alternatively you could go on a diet... just saying ;)
good luck! :D
*sighhhh* this post reminds me of when I realised I spent around $100+ a week on food during uni. yep, I pretty much blew my ENTIRE scholarship on food.
STAY STRONG. think of tetsuya's :D
OKAY I COMPLETELY BLEW IT TODAY.
HAR HAR SPENT SO MUCH SPOILINGMYSELF
(but i think i deserve it after the week ive been having at work :( )
damnit, i really need to stick to this "budget"...
