High on life

We bought bananas from woolies today so I made banana bread. I need to invest in some handsome crockery if they keep appearing on instagram. My Corelle plates and bowls are too mainstream.

I had the most MORTIFYING experience grocery shopping today. D and I had a run in with a racist old man who pushed his trolley into D's leg 3 TIMES! He also told us to "go back to where you came from". I realised how incredibly resilient I am because nothing happened inside me. Nothing ticked or pissed me off. I mean, afterall, who hasn't had racist remarks thrown at them every so often, right? Well apparently this doesn't happen to D often enough. He absolutely blew up in the middle of the supermarket. I was clutching onto him with all my strength to stop him from confronting that old racist bastard, but he just flung me off like a kid with nose boogers. But of course when D was paying at the counter I did give that man a very dirty look and told him he was very rude and racist- and a very bad influence on all the small children around us. I also threw in something a hippy would say "get over yourself and embrace diversity". When I left, I felt many accusing looks glance his way. But the more I think about it, the less OK I feel. In this day and age, these people still think its ok to think like this, let alone say it out loud? Sistah, look around you. You're shopping at CARLINGFORD COURT, being surrounded by all sorts of ethnicities. Wtf. And WHY oh WHY would you pick on the 1.9m guy who could pound you to shreds. It takes so much strength to hold him back. (At home, D was like " WHY DID YOU HOLD ME BACK, I WAS SO READY TO POUND HIS FACE IN" etc etc).

I will not be shopping at Carlo Court in a long while. I fear we have been blacklisted for causing a scene.

But yeah, so that's one of the more depressing stories of the day. Wow I totally diverged from my original topic.

So, you know when you try to stalk someone down on fb, but you are sorely disappointed to find out that their privacy settings are as tight as the security at the Star (or my fb)? I had one of those moments a few days ago. I've been trying to ... gain more insight into X after hearing a few people talk about this person. Found nothing on fb. Then went to other social networking sites- found an account, but privacy is also tight as.

Well today, I accidentally stumbled across X's instagram. NO JOKE, I was searching something random by tags and FOUND IT. Went a bit hyper when I found it because there were a mother load of photos uploaded and not on privacy mode. It was so great - I had a ball flicking through all the pics!

I know this sounds incredibly creepy...

I also find this a bit creepy- coming across this by absolute chance...

Btw, the photos aren't dodgy or anything... Just nice food pics that I wanted to see :D just needed to clarify.

Ps. I was shocked with the number of comments in my last post ahaha (thanks!). Isn't domestic divinity's blog really interesting? I love her posts :)

Pps: HBD K! Go on tumblr/YouTube/fb less and study for HSC ok?

The Carlingford incident - yuck.
People in Armidale are nice.. it's just that they automatically assume that you're an international student if you don't look of caucasian descent - I get spoken to in a slooooow fob-ish accent at least once every other day.. =="

& teeheee - pretty sure we've all had that "damn, fb privacy" moment :p

@Jess: Yeah, I've worked in Wagga and Orange a handful of times and I've always been treated with respect. So weird in Sydney. Blargh. So polarised? not sure if thats the right word to use. But LOL @ the slow-speech thing. Hilarious.

@Janet: :( yeah what can you do... but LAUGH at that hilarious frontline episode. Oh boy. So funny.

Yup - had a racist experience at carlo court too once. Except I was in the car with some friends, and this lady with a pram came out of one of the parking rows in the outdoor carpark, and crossed the road - NOT at the crossing and without checking for cars. My friend braked suddenly to let her cross, and she started swearing at us and yelling racist remarks =( so sad that this is happening in carlo.. hope your dad's calmed down by now!

What a loser old man, does he not realise what Carlo is? xD

Anyway, I saw your banana bread photo on Instagram and it made me go out and buy some. SO GOOD. :D

@C: damn that crazy lady. :<

@diti: BANANANANNANANANAANANANNANANAA I've eaten > 10 loaves of banana bread in 2012. Soon enough I'll turn into a banana, or plain flour... or cinnamon. I hope cinnamon. It's the most expensive out of the three !

For every bad apple, there are a ton of good ones. I met a strange old Caucasian man at the bus stop in Carlo once. Started speaking to be in better mandarin than mine. I was like freaked out until he explained his parents were British and he was born in Shanghai. Crazy huh?

For a very multi cultural country, there seems to be quite of racism. But I don't think us Asians have it that bad compared to like the Muslims. Enough racist bogans out there(ever been to QLD?) but they exist just like the Southern Rednecks(sounds like a type of snake =/). As for the old man, the trolly action was too far but for the most part, I think he's more a spiteful old geezer that was bought up in a time with less cultural sensitivity(white australia policy?)

Seriously, that stuff ALWAYS happens to my dad too and until I'm there with him, I always forget because it doesn't happen to me when I'm alone too :| We so sheltered. What is it about our dads that attracts extremer forms of racism hahaha. Goodluck for your exams!

@Jas: If N.Korea are stupid enough to launch any m1ss1les, we'll be treated with so much more hate. Remember back in the day when the Germans were the terr0r1sts? (Die Hard reference). But yeah, I agree, the good out weigh the bad BY FAR - so thanful for that.

@Leeanne: I have no idea why our dads attract so much unwanted attention. Maybe they both have shorter fuses? Ahaha so glad this is not a common occurrence. Good luck to you too!! I can't wait until holidayssss
