Meidi BBQ House

Hi Everyone,

This has got to be the most exciting post I've done all year (hehe and it's just the beginning, 2011 is going to be so good!).

On Tuesday night, S, A, L, J, M, R, M & I visited Meidi BBQ House for their all-you-can-eat meat skewers.  Freaking awesome. Milo is also freaking awesome. Thanks for the photos!!! (they look yummy!)

Uber glad I finally found time to try this place. I've been excited about it since Chocolatesuze's post after her visit, and when I discovered a few fellow meat enthusiasts were available on Tuesday night, I hurriedly created a fb event, and before I knew it, we were standing outside Meidi's.

Meidi BBQ is actually located next to the former Tingha Palace in Parramatta.  I think that place is renamed Prince's Seafood Restaurant now. i.e. The Asian side of Parra. :)

When I got there, everyone was waiting outside, with very impatient faces. Haha! I don't blame them!

We walked straight in, dropped off our bags, and attacked the open meat fridges.  There were strange contraptions on every table. Burning charcoal is put into the middle and you stick your skewer into the slot and VOILA watch your skewer turn. Imo, the best part was watching the chicken wings turn and turn and turn and turn, and eventually turn a beautiful golden colour... dripping with chicken fat. Mmmm.

Wide array of meats- lamb, mongolian lamb, spicy rice cake, fish balls, sausages, vege (mushroom + capsicum), wagyu beef, terriyaki marinade, sardine...

The list continues... satay chicken, chicken gizzard, intestine, terriyaki chicken, chicken heart...

They spin!

Another option is to place a rack over the heat to cook non-skewered items.  We started cooking these mini-steaks, but chatted for way too long and forgot about them. Haha.

Spin, spin, SPIN!  Such a genius idea. Serious props to anyone who invented the spinning machine. So practical!

Towards the end of the night, our end of the table had this many skewers. (End count > 100 skewers between the four of us)

The other end of the table needs to seriously reconsider spending $26.80 each for a meat buffet if they can only manage that many skewers =P

But not only do they have meat skewers, and vege skewers, and FISH skewers, they had cold sides- preserved carrot and radish, marinaded seaweed, sweet tofu skin, and some other cold salads (the carrot/radish one is my fave by far- really easy to make, will try these hols!), and desserts- red bean "soup", snow fungus sweet "soup", and ofc good ol' vanilla ice cream!

Rex is jealous. I can see it in his eyes.  Of my Winnie the Pooh spoon. (And yes, I realise I look immensely constipated in this photo)

Anyway, we've reached the end of the photos.  If anyone wants to go again/for the first time, feel free to invite me, because I'm definitely up for another good night.  The number to call for a booking:

Man, this post was such a joy to write.  It is almost 3am. I cannot fall asleep because I'm so incredibly full. My annual leave is almost up.  I hope my remaining holidays are just as good as today.

Thanks for reading and putting up with my gluttony!  I promise I'll exercise soon and stick to my new resolutions for 2011!

'Til next time folks!

P.S. This is some footage of two chicken wings which refused to turn. :)

Eastwood Garden Peking

A little while ago, B, Q and I visited Eastwood Garden Peking for their 下午茶餐 menu.  From memory it's $6.80 for an item on the set menu and you get your "main" and a drink.

I always walked past this restaurant without really looking at the menus they had stuck on the window, so I never realised they  had this afternoon set menu special.  So we tried it, and we ordered:
  • Sour & Spicy Soup + noodle
  • Pork strips & preserved vegetables + noodle
  • Dragon Dumplings (6)

We asked for three small bowls (for ease of sharing), and I guess we weren't specific enough.

We should have asked for washed bowls, because what we got were filthy ones with last night's dinner slime all over it. You can't tell from the blurred picture because I was shaking with immense rage when I took this. :@ :@ :@ So gross. I'm so not going back.

Things I liked about Eastwood Garden Peking Restaurant:
  • This bullet point shouldn't even be here, because I didn't like it at all.
Things I didn't like about Eastwood Garden Peking Restaurant:
  • They had slimy bowls and plates
  • They gave me a lemon green tea when I ordered a lemon coke
  • They forgot about B's order and we waited 25-30 mins for it...
There's more, but I ceebs getting angry over it now. It's too late.

Should have a post up soon about my meat adventure at Meidi BBQ tonight. (I smell like krn bbq :D)

Guess who mms-ed me today...

Love & Other Drugs (ie J.Gyllenhaal)

M and I just came back (oh ho ho its late- just a bit after midnight) from the cinemas.  We watched two movies:

  1. Little Fockers
  2. Love & Other Drugs
Heard alot of negative comments re Little Fockers, but I enjoyed it. But I hope it's the last movie.  Another one would probably ruin the entire story.

Anyway, I just really wanted to rave about Love & Other Drugs.  There are so many things I love about this movie.  I should list them below:
  • Jake Gyllenhaal
  • Anne Hathaway
  • Regina Spektor (I squealed with glee inside my head when I heard Fidelity play during the credits) ((PLEEZ COME TO SYDNEY PLEEEEZ))
  • Romcom
  • Deep-ish. Well meaningful at least.
  • The happy ending
  • Jake Gyllenhaal
Yes, it is utterly and completely cliche, but I happen to like cliche movies. Don't judge me. =D  If I watched a non-cliche movie (like American Beauty), I'd be "wtf"-ing the whole time.  This movie was really sweet, except for the fact that it had WAY too many sex scenes and it was just too awkward to watch with M. Haaha.  Despite being a non-shallow movie, it's also not very sad?

Anyway, don't know what else to say.

Oh, I'm going to try make yoghurt panacotta tomorrow, to whip everyone back into shape for the rest of the summer.  Will tell you how that goes.

Bye guys :)

not much going on..

Say "HI" grandpa!

Hopefully there'll be a more interesting post up tomorrow night. I need my camera, but my dad's got it !!!

Just wanted to say hi, and that I have drunk chicken in my fridge.

1. Steam whole chicken/or boil it in water (mm chicken soup)
2. Cut up chicken into relatively large chunks.
3. Let it cool and then submerge into Chinese cooking wine.
4. Chill, leave overnight and HURRAH you've got yourself some drunk chicken.

It's normally served as a cold dish in Shanghai, but I just eat it out of the container because I <3 chicken.

good noms.

First day of 2011- HECTI-KUH. not really

Hello all.

I am excited it is 2011. Ready for a fresh start.

Excuse the hair. For I just woke up not long ago. 9.30pm to be precise. Yep.

And no, I didn't have a wild night partying. It was quite tame. Went to bed alot later than I should have- was packing souvenirs for my lucky cousins overseas. They are getting alot of Billabong/Quicksilver stuff. Like they asked...

So yeah. Then got up at 6.30 to get D to the airport and drive back. M was not capable of driving after not driving for 3 weeks & being jetlagged and super sleep deprived.

Trivia: I WAS THE FIRST CUSTOMER AT KINGS SEAFOOD RESTAURANT FOR 2011. Woohoo. We drove into the Ewood parking lot and it was empty. Walked into the yumcha place and it was empty. Looked into the yumcha trolleys and they were empty.

Did a bit of grocery shopping- lots of yawning and bummed around at home (more washing/laundry). After dinner I fell asleep and yep. That was my day.

It went by so quickly.

Currently waiting for D to give us a ring or a buzz on fb/msn. I think he's so excited to be in Shanghai he's forgotten us already D: D: D:

Thanks for the new years wishes guys.  I've set my resolutions for the year (for the second time in my life) and yeah. Nothing interesting. Just more like : BE MORE HEALTHY, LOVE MORE, HATE LESS, BITCH LESS, and alot of other things to lessen.

HAPPY 2011 :D
