The Pie-Tin: a Thanksgiving special

Even though I've been going to uni in this area of the city for a year, I haven't really ventured very far into Newtown for the food.. or anything really. But ever since I discovered Foursquare, I've come to realise that I really need to explore.  And today, after watching a series of youtube videos teaching people how to make un-cracked and evenly baked pumpkin pies, I was in the mood for good ol' sweet pumpkin pie.  Where else would you go for sweet pie?

This pie shack is on Brown Street - visible from King Street.  It's pretty much where Clem's chicken is (also had Clem's chicken today. SAAH GOOOD).

What a modest little sign!
Inside, it's kinda rustic, kinda cosy, but also kinda cold. I know that previous statement sounded very contradictory, but I did get that sort of vibe inside.

PIE - who does not like pie
Do you see what I mean by things not really fitting in? I like it. In hindsight, we sat in the best seat to take photos of the whole room. :)

Red accents! Me gusta!
AND FINALLY, THE PIE!

Just a pumpkin pie.  With ice cream (+$1.00).

Pumpkin pie $6.50 and ice cream $1.00
This was the first time I've tried pumpkin pie. To be honest, it was a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong though - it was perfectly sweet, but I was just expecting a more pumpkin-y taste/texture.   I guess they might have used the canned pumpkin puree. I think a bit of texture would be nice in a pie like this.  I might try making one ... one day...

All gobbled up!
I like this place. Next time I come, I want to try the sour cherry pie, or the apple pie, but mostly, I want to try a savoury pie. There are so many savoury pie places in Newtown. NEWTOWWWWN. I'M COMING FOR YA.  So peeps, keep your eyes peeled in 2013.

Check out that mammoth lens! (not mine, I can't make myself fork out $XXXX on cameras).
I had a SUPERB day today (watched Skyfall AND I went to Holy Basil for dinner tonight). But what is with the weather?  I don't know, but I don't really care either, because it's like 27 degrees in LA, AND I WILL BE THERE SOON.

Since it's Thanksgiving (American time), I'd like to say thanks to everyone who reads. I would still write with no readers, but it's a nice feeling to know that people are curious about what I've been up to.

Good luck for your last exam bleb :) <3 p="p">
