Being an individual with no real assets- owning material items with no appreciating value within a certain amount of time, I really, fricking HATE inflation.
Today I saw D surfing the webjet site and thought it was strange because I thought he had already booked everyone's tickets - BUT NO! He was taking a gamble and was waiting for prices to go down lower.
What happened?
In the beginning of September, D and I started looking around for cheap airplane tickets for our o/s holiday. D was like- we should book later this month incase the Swine Flu epi fluctuates alot in Asia. So we kept monitoring and didn't book. About half a month into Sep, prices for plane tickets started dropping. I said it was a good time to buy- I don't like taking risks; I mean, hey, strike while the iron's hot. To shut me up, D said he had booked tickets, so I've been a happy chappy since then.
Now plane tickets have rocketed to sky high prices and I'm disappointed we didn't strike when we could have. D: Shopping in HK would feel more satisfying if we could have save $AUD2000.
Holiday plans are a bit strange now. I no longer think leaving Nov 18 is a sensible idea. I'd like to think I'll be allowed to go to afters or something and I think feeling hungover on a plane is not a good idea. Dec 1 is a prefered day for me. :D I seriously CANNOT wait. But hopefully we'll come across cheaper tickets. At the moment, prices fare at about $640 one way- if we fly with Virgin International (I think that's the name.. Virgin Aus?). But I've heard REALLY bad things about Virgin, and I'd rather stick with Qantas (our normal Carrier) or Cathay (cos apparently they haev good food).
If I were to make a decision right now, I'd really like to stop in Tokyo for 3 days on JAL before heading off to China/HK. I think it only costs $200 p/p for a stopover. Not quite sure.
So kids, lesson learned here is to KEEP BADGERING D TO BOOK TICKETS- AND PHYSICALLY WATCH HIM DO IT!
Props to Mawson and Bosco for their wonderful itinerary. :D 4 Dec- 11 Dec if you're available for a meetup HOLLER!
I wonder what I'll be doing tomorrow. My mind tells me I have to study. However, I'm pretty sure my family will go out and eat- my heart's telling me to follow.
HAHA! :(
Quiet study UTS anyone?
Have a good weekend everyone!

10 screams of joy:
Yeah my parents are postponers who do so in the hopes of a great deal or something =/
Haha follow your heart and go an eat. But still study hard =)
THAT CHOCOLATE IS AMAZING. *mouth gargles*
*drool*
Sorry but anyone that uses webjet is stupid. All the quotes I've ever searched on there have been far more expensive than I've found on other sites.
Anyone for my findings:
Viva Macau still has tickets available at $750 return (add $40 for checked in baggage, so in reality $790 return) for flights departing late November and arriving back in Aus late Dec.
I did a dummy booking 19/11-14/12 and there are still plenty fares at that price. From Macau take the hourly ferry service to Hong Kong ($30 AUD one way)
The things you've heard about Virgin are probably to do with Virgin Blue (the Australia domestic carrier) and not to do with Virgin Atlantic (UK carrier) who flies the SYD-HKG route you're talking about.
$1380 is ridiculous for SYD-HKG return! I'm sure I could find flights on other full-service carriers for prices lower than that.
My tip would be to go to those dodgy Chinese travel agents like the one in Eastwood Arcade and ask them for deals since you've left it so late. There are always cheaps deals with the Chinese airlines and you can't find them online so try a chinese agent :P
Other info:
Sydney - Hong Kong = very busy routes. 6 flights a day. 3 with Cathay, 2 with Qantas, 1 with Virgin. Ironically that's also the order from most expensive -> least. Having said that, even Virgin will be $$$, esp now since it's close. There are probably cheaper flights to HK but will require a stop-over somewhere.
If you're feeling adventurous there may be even cheaper fares than Viva on other low cost carriers. Gimme a shout if you wanna find out more but I somehow think you wont :P
OMFG! STOP THE PRESS! I HAVE FOUND AN ABSOLUTE BARGAIN!
CHINA AIRLINES - $867 (incl. taxes)
19/11 - 20/12
Sydney - Hong Kong with a stop over in Taipei.
YOU'RE NOT GONNA FIND A DEAL BETTER ON ANY OTHER FULL-SERVICE CARRIER THAN THAT NOW. MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO BOOK IT STRAIGHT AWAY!
$867 for that time frame is a steal!
haha, i know how that feels....ever get that situation when you insist you're right, you KNOW you're right, but parents ignore you, they screw up and then STILL find some way to shift the blame off themselves?
From my experience Cathay aint too flash. They somehow redefined Syd-HK as short-haul flight and so they give you this small-as Airbus thats better suited to go to places like NZ.
And yes I will be present in HK in that timeframe, so perhaps a meetup is in order.
Hahaha yeah the wait-and-see attitude does have its drawbacks too haha
Webjet > Flight centre anyday though. Grrr Flight Centre. Wastes two hours and gives rip off flights.
From now on, I think I'll go directly to airline websites *grumble*
I want that hot chocolate :D
YAY u booked!
I CAN'T WAIT. *dies.
HI, yeah flight prices suck. My parents recently decided that we were going to Malaysia this holidays and literally never mentioned it to me. Before we were supposed to go to Europe and then that got effed cause my Dad had work, so I dont know how this is possible anyway ahha.
I think I'm leaving heaaaaps later though, like Mid Jan- Early Feb. Good but, cause by that time i'll be sick of TV and vegetating and would've seen a lot of everyone :)
I was under the impression that the closer to your flight date you buy, the more expensive it gets. I don't know. Hope your problem is solved.
